What is the TRIO Program?
In 2010, the TRIO program was established at Illinois College to promote the academic success, including persistence and graduation, of a select group of students who are the first in their family to attend college, low-income, or have a documented disability. The TRIO Program is funded by a Student Support Services grant from the U.S. Department of Education to serve 140 students per year. Services and activities are free to all enrolled students.
What Services are Provided by the TRIO Program?
The staff of the Center for Academic Excellence will build on the many ways that Illinois College supports all of its students in achieving academic success.
Counseling Services:
- academic advice
- graduate school application assistance
- financial counseling
- personal advising
Coaching Services:
- study tables
- supplemental instruction
- special workshops only for TRiOparticipants
- performance monitoring and intervention
- career advice
Advocacy Services:
- communication with faculty and staff about your needs
- priority job placement with on-campus employment
- classroom accommodation as needed
Can I Be Part of TRIO?
Eligible students must be U.S. citizens or meet residency requirements, be accepted or enrolled at Illinois College, demonstrate academic need, and meet one of the following three criteria: a first generation college student (neither parent has a baccalaureate degree), income eligibility guidelines, or have a diagnosed and documented disability.
